Penang police will launch a special team, consisting of female officers and staff, to handle violent crime cases which involve women.
The move is part of an operation dubbed ‘Ops Cantas Wanita’.
State police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the team, which will be equipped with special gear and weapons, would be launched on November 15th.
Under Ops Cantas, which began on August 17, police have since arrested one thousand 162 suspects believed to be involved in various crimes in the state.
Of that total, 165 detainees were found to be members of triad gangs.
Following the arrests, a total of 4,381 weapons, including firearms, machetes, samurai swords and bombs believed to be used in criminal acts, have also been seized.
