A police sergeant has been sentenced to four years jail for receiving a bribe from a self-employed man.
The Shah Alam Sessions Court also fined Mohamed Zamani Yahya 20,000 ringgit for the offence.
The policeman was found guilty of accepting 3,500 ringgit from Erwanfazli Malek in return for not taking any action against his brother in a drug-related offence.
Mohamad Zamani committed the offence at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department located at Petaling Jaya on July 12th last year.
The father of five was attached to the said department and has been a police officer for 25 years.
Judge Mohd Bakri Abd Majid, in his ruling, said the defense had failed to raise reasonable doubt in the prosecution’s case.
He allowed a stay of execution on the jail term on condition that the appeal be filed by Thursday.
