Sporting joy to celebrate 50 years of M’sia

WHAT a remarkable performance by our sportsmen and sportswomen to mark Malaysia Day.

Our Harimau Muda under-23 squad lifted the Merdeka Tournament trophy for the eleventh time in beating Myanmar 2-0 in Kuantan in timely fashion at a time when our national football has been getting brickbats.

On Sunday, the darling of Malaysian sports Datuk Nicol David beat her Egyptian nemesis Raneem El Weleily for her eighth CIMB Malaysian Open title at the Curve Mutiara Damansara.

The win was Nicol’s 67th WSA title.

She has been the World No.1 and has been inducted in the Squash Hall of Fame.

Another victory was by upcoming 14-year-old diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri who won the individual platform event at the Asian Diving Cup, upstaging favourite China’s Loh Zhiayi .

On Saturday, Nur Dhabitah and Traisy Viven Tukiet won the 10m platform synchro which was her second gold medal at the Toa Payoh Swimming Complex, Singapore.

The new sensation will be an able replacement for Olympics bronze medallist Pandelela Rinong in the 10m platform synchro in

the future.

Kudos to our national sportsmen and sportswomen for bringing glory to the nation with their well deserved wins.
