A South African woman was sentenced to 15 years jail by the Shah Alam High Court today after she pleaded guilty to possessing more than 2 kilogrammes of Methamphetamine two years ago.
29 year old Lourens Madelize, committed the offence at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s Arrival Hall at around 10.30pm on August 9, 2011.
Madelize, an employee of a shoe shop in South Africa, claimed that she was told to give the bag to someone in Malaysia.
Judge Datuk Akhtar Tahir said he took into consideration her guilty plea and thus sentenced her to 15 years in jail.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Iswa Tonie earlier urged the court to impose a severe punishment to serve as a lesson not only to the woman but also others on the seriousness of such an offence in Malaysia.
