A police corporal has been detained for allegedly freeing a Nigerian detainee, involved in a drug case, from the Jinjang police lock-up last Monday.
The 52-year-old policeman, who had been suspended from work, was arrested at his house in Jinjang.
Datuk Ku said based on a CCTV recording at the lock up area, the policeman, who was on duty alone, had allegedly taken the Nigerian suspect out of the lock up.
He also did not rule out the possibility that the policeman, who had previous record for misconduct and disciplinary problem, had been bribed to do so by the detainee.
Authorities have also launched a manhunt for the Nigerian suspect, identified as Osuji Kelly Prince, aged 25.
Those with information on him and his whereabouts have been advised to contact investigating officer Inspector Hamsan Hadi or Assistant Superintendant Mohd Akmal Abdullah or the Kuala Lumpur police control centre.
