Two controversial bloggers, arrived at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission offices, in Kuala Lumpur this morning to have their statements recorded, over an offensive picture, posted on facebook on Thursday, which allegedly insults Islam and Muslims.
The couple, 25-year-old Alvin Tan, and his Singaporean girlfriend, 24 year old Vivian Lee, arrived at 10.45am, after they were summoned by the commission, amid public furore over their online post.
Despite details of the meeting being kept away from the media, MCMC monitoring and enforcement division chief, Zulkarnain Mohd Yassin said the commission will complete its investigation into the case in the near future.
Zulkarnain also said that police would carry out its own investigation.
The photo of the duo, who gained notoriety for their sex blog last year, was deemed offensive as it had insulted the Muslim religious practice of fasting during Ramadhan.
The picture, which had a Halal logo on it, depicted the couple eating bak kut teh and describing it as fragrant, delicious, appetising.
Non-Muslims also condemned the bloggers, with many saying their move was stupid and a cheap publicity stunt.
Following the backlash, Alvin and Vivian uploaded a video on Youtube yesterday to apologise for their insensitivities.
The couple’s joint Facebook page has also been taken down by the website administrators.
