WWII BOMB DISCOVERED AT CONSTRUCTION SITE IN MALAYSIA

An unexploded World War II-era aerial bomb, discovered at a housing construction site at Jalan Barnett in Georgetown, Penang yesterday has been safely detonated.

The 86 centimeters long device, believed to have been air dropped from a Japanese combat aircraft about 70 years ago, was detonated by a bomb disposal unit today.

Bomb disposal personnel had dug a hole surrounding the bomb and covered the hole with concrete slabs to absorb the blast.

Residents had earlier been evacuated and the area was cordoned off by police as a precautionary measure.

A Fire and Rescue Department truck and an ambulance were also present.
