DRUG POSSESSION : TAILOR, BOYFRIEND ESCAPE GALLOWS -

A woman and her Nigerian boyfriend who were facing the death penalty for drug trafficking, escaped the gallows when the Shah Alam High Court amended the charge to possession.

Judicial Commissioner Chong Siew Khim sentenced P. Nirmaladevi, a tailor, to 15 years in jail while her boyfriend, Nigerian college student, Udegbe Sixthus Okechukwu, was given a 14-year jail sentence and 12 strokes of the whip.

Nirmaladevi, 47, and Udegbe, 28, admitted to having in their possession 597.4 grammes of Methamphetamine and morphine in a room at Holiday Villa, Subang Jaya on January 6, 2011.

The judge also ordered that they serve their sentences from the date of arrest.
