DRUGS : ARMY FOILS ATTEMPT TO SMUGGLE SYABU PILLS WORTH RM4.8 MLN

The army foiled an attempt to smuggle syabu pills, worth 4.8 million ringgit, in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan.

According to the Eighth Infantry Brigade Commander Datuk Mohamad Zaki Hamzah it was the biggest drug seizure ever by security forces in the state this year.

He revealed that a group of soldiers on border patrol, stumbled upon two men acting suspiciously on a boat at a river bank along Sungai Golok near Pengkalan Haram Gergaji at 10.30pm on Wednesday.

The soldiers then approached the suspects but the duo suddenly jumped into the river and escaped into Thailand.

Upon closer inspection, the soldiers discovered 168 thousand syabu pills inside two packages left on the river bank by the smugglers.

It was believed that the suspects were Thais, who were waiting for their accomplices to collect the packages.

The case was handed over to the Pasir Mas police district headquarters for further action.
