There has been a marked increase in the number of asthma and other haze-related respiratory cases, seeking treatment at hospitals and clinics in Johor and Melaka.
The health ministry said, the number of asthma cases reported recorded a 100 percent increase, since haze enveloped the two southern states but assured that there is no cause for alarm, as all clinics and hospitals are ready to cope with the situation.
Health Director-General, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said in Johor, the number of asthma cases increased by 122 per cent and in Melaka by 127 per cent.
He said this after attending the National Patient Safety Campaign and Seminar 2013, in Putrajaya today.
The campaign was aimed at developing a safer healthcare system, by enforcing several patient safety goals, that all private and government healthcare providers must adhere to.
