One of three tourists from Hong Kong, who were injured after their vehicle was hit by a train near the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, yesterday evening, has succumbed to injuries.

Eddie Lok Wing Tak, in his 50s, who is also the driver of the ill-fated car, died while receiving treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital last night.

Two others, both women, who were injured in the mishap are still receiving treatment at the Hospital, while the fourth passenger in the car escaped unhurt.

The victims, all family members, were on their way to KKIA to catch a flight.

Initial investigations showed that the car failed to stop when the guard manning the railway crossing at Jalan Lintas in Petagas, gave the signal for vehicles to give way for the approaching train.

According to the train driver, he had used the emergency brake to avoid hitting the vehicle but the train could not stop in time, resulting in the mishap.
