Police have busted a parcel scam syndicate following the arrest of four Nigerians including a woman early this month.
According to Subang Jaya District Police Chief ACP Yahya Ramli the suspects aged between 20 and 38 had entered the country using a student pass.
He said a joint operation with the narcotics department tracked down the group’s modus operandi which enticed victims via email with a promise of a 6.3 million US dollar reward.
To obtain the cash reward, he said the suspects would tell the victim to credit 52,000 dollars into a local bank account for processing fee.
Two laptops, seven handphones, fake documents, pen drives and rubber stamps were among the items seized at the suspects’ condominium at Persiaran Kewajipan USJ.
On the latest scam organised by the syndicate, Yahaya said they had conned a woman of over 15,000 ringgit by posing as an architect from America named Mohammed Yakub.
